Level 2

First Aid for Mental Health

Course Overview

Level-2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health – 1 Day Course

Mental health challenges affect a significant portion of the UK population, with 1 in 4 people experiencing a condition annually and 1 in 6 employees dealing with mental health concerns at work. Stress, often linked to the workplace, remains a major factor impacting performance and well-being.

Despite the growing awareness, many individuals remain silent due to stigma and the fear of being judged, which can lead to a culture of avoidance and high costs for organisations. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) highlights the importance of considering mental health as part of any workplace first aid needs assessment.

This comprehensive 6-hour qualification is designed to help individuals become confident and capable Mental Health First Aiders. Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  • Identify a variety of common mental health conditions
  • Engage in supportive conversations with those who may be struggling
  • Guide individuals towards appropriate professional support
  • Recognise signs of stress and understand coping strategies
  • Understand the impact of alcohol and drug misuse
  • Apply the Mental Health First Aid action plan effectively
  • Promote a mentally healthy workplace culture

Who is it for ?

  • Employees who wish to act as advocates for positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
  • People who have a personal interest in mental health first aid and wish to develop their knowledge and skills further.
